Lyrics:

I’m all dressed up with nowhere to go
Walkin’ with a dead man over my shoulder
I’m all dressed up with nowhere to go
Walkin’ with a dead man over my shoulder

Waiting for an invitation to arrive
Goin’ to a party where no one’s still alive
Waiting for an invitation to arrive
Goin’ to a party where no one’s still alive

I was struck by lighting, walkin’ down the street
I was hit by something last night in my sleep
It’s a dead man’s party who could ask for more?
Everybody’s comin’, leave your body at the door
Leave your body and soul at the door

Don’t run away it’s only me
Only me

I’m all dressed up, nowhere to go
Walkin’ with a dead man (oh!) with a dead man
Ooh ooh, waitin’ for an invitation to arrive
Ooh! Walkin’ with a dead man, dead man (with a dead man)

I got my best suit and my tie
With a shiny silver dollar on either eye
I hear the chauffeur comin’ to my door
Says there’s room for maybe just one more

I was struck by lighting, walkin’ down the street
I was hit by something last night in my sleep
It’s a dead man’s party, who could ask for more?
Everybody’s comin’, leave your body at the door
Leave your body and soul at the door

Don’t run away it’s only me
Don’t be afraid of what you can’t see
Don’t run away it’s only me (only me)
Don’t be afraid of what you can’t see

It’s only me

I was struck by lighting, walkin’ down the street
I was hit by something last night in my sleep
It’s a dead man’s party, who could ask for more?
Everybody’s comin’, leave your body at the door
Leave your body and soul at the door

Don’t run away it’s only me (only me)
Don’t be afraid of what you can’t see
Don’t run away it’s only me (only me)
Don’t be afraid of what you can’t see

It’s only me

It’s only me
Only me
It’s only me
It’s only me
Only me (only me)
It’s only me
It’s only me
It’s only me
Ow!

Review:

While Oingo Boingo wasn’t often played in my house growing up I was super lucky to have been introduced to a ton of different music from the 1980s growing up.  Overall, I do really like this song.  Its rhythm and beat are catchy, and the lyrics are quite entertaining.

In the context of RPO I do understand why the character of Halliday chose this song to set his last will and testament to.  It has just enough of the morbid humor I feel he would have possessed as well as just having that genuine 1980s feel.  There is little chance of thinking that this song was made in any other time period.  Its just distinctly 80s.

The lyrics truly do feel like the fit the context of his will as well.  While he is dead it has the feel of a dance song which was fitting because he used this video to announce that he had built a contest into the OASIS.  This song has that kind of mischievous and upbeat feel in contrast to the idea of the lyrics.

Which I’m finding the more and more I research New Wave music seems to kind of be a running theme.

This song is also the first introduction to Halliday’s character and the fact that he likes to hide clues and little nods to his life throughout his work…and that sometimes what looks innocent actually holds a really important piece of information that you may need.

Heartbeat, and kisses to sweet

Summertime love in the moonlight

Now that the summer is gone

You had to go back home

Please come and see me again

I’ve never felt more alone

Come back and stay

(I think about you every day)

I really want you too

(You swept my feet right off the ground

You’re the love I found)

Doctor Jones, Jones

Calling Doctor Jones

Doctor Jones, Doctor Jones

Get up now

All I think of is you,

And all of the things we had

Doctor, what can I do?

Why does he have to be like that?

(baby I am missing you)

I want you by my side

(and I hope you’ll miss me too)

Come back and stay

(I think about you every day)

I really want you too

Review:

I grew up with Aqua as a pop band I listened to during junior high and high school.  This song is quite nostalgic and is even on my personal “getting ready mix” for when I need to be psyched up to go outside.

Overall it is a solid pop song from the 1990s full of repetitive lyrics that occasionally don’t make sense but still is one of those that is super catchy and will get stuck in your head.  I absolutely love this song however to be objective it isn’t great… but I still LOVE it!

Lyrics:

Jitterbug
Jitterbug
Jitterbug
Jitterbug

You put the boom-boom into my heart
You send my soul sky-high
When your lovin’ starts
Jitterbug into my brain
Goes a bang-bang-bang
‘Til my feet do the same

But something’s bugging me
Something ain’t right
My best friend told me
What you did last night
You left me sleeping in my bed
I was dreaming
But I should’ve been with you instead

Wake me up before you go-go
Don’t leave me hanging on like a yo-yo
Wake me up before you go-go
I don’t wanna miss it when you hit that high
Wake me up before you go-go
‘Cause I’m not planning on going solo
Wake me up before you go-go
Take me dancing tonight
I wanna hit that high, yeah yeah

You take the grey skies outta my way
You make the sun shine brighter than Doris Day
You turned a bright spark into a flame
My beats per minute never been the same

‘Cause you’re my lady
I’m your fool
It makes me crazy when you act so cruel
Come on baby
Let’s not fight
We’ll go dancing
Everything will be alright

Wake me up before you go-go
Don’t leave me hanging on like a yo-yo
Wake me up before you go-go
I don’t wanna miss it when you hit that high
Wake me up before you go-go
‘Cause I’m not planning on going solo
Wake me up before you go-go
Take me dancing tonight
I wanna hit that high, yeah yeah yeah, baby

Cuddle up baby
Move in tight
We’ll go dancing tomorrow night
It’s cold out there
But it’s warm in bed
They can dance
We’ll stay home instead
(Jitterbug)

Wake me up before you go-go
Don’t leave me hanging on like a yo-yo
Wake me up before you go-go
I don’t wanna miss it when you hit that high
Wake me up before you go-go
‘Cause I’m not planning on going solo
Wake me up before you go-go
Take me dancing tonight
Wake me up before you go-go
Don’t you dare to leave me hanging on like a yo-yo

Take me dancing
A boom-boom-boom-boom, oh!
A boom-boom-boom-boom (Yeah, yeah)
(Take me dancing tonight) Yeah!

Yeah, yeah

Review:

WHAM! is not one of my favorite bands but I grew up with this song as well.  Between it being played on the radio in the ‘90s to my house (thank my DJ-in-a-former-life, music junkie father) I’m familiar enough that I know all of the lyrics to this song.

Its upbeat and catchy.  Its got a fun chorus.  A song that I put on when I do housework to keep me up and going…and using the broom, or hairbrush, as a microphone… because why not.

Solid, fun, kind of superfluous and airy…overall silly and upbeat.

-Genre: Hard Rock, Rock, Pop

-How to Listen: Spotify (with subscription), Apple Music (with subscription), iTunes (for purchase), CD, or look for it at your local library

Lyrics:

Step inside
Walk this way
You and me babe
Hey hey

Love is like a bomb, baby, c’mon get it on
Livin’ like a lover with a radar phone
Lookin’ like a tramp, like a video vamp
Demolition woman, can I be your man? (your man)

Razzle ‘n’ a dazzle ‘n’ a flash a little light
Television lover, baby, go all night
Sometime, anytime, sugar me sweet
Little miss innocent sugar me, yeah, yeah

Now c’mon, take a bottle, shake it up
Break the bubble, break it up

Pour some sugar on me
Ooh, in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me
C’mon, fire me up
Pour your sugar on me
I can’t get enough

I’m hot, sticky sweet
From my head to my feet, yeah

Listen, red light, yellow light, green-a-light go
Crazy little woman in a one man show
Mirror queen, mannequin, rhythm of love
Sweet dream,…

Review:

A solid song that most people know be it from parents playing it in our childhood to going to concerts and hearing covers of the song…or even going to the Mad T Party event at Disneyland in the mid 2010s.  this song is super popular at clubs of all types (ugh remember clubs and concerts?)…. I rarely run into someone who is over the age of 18 who hasn’t heard this song in some capacity.

Pretty typical of Def Leppard and their style of rock.  Catchy.  I know all the lyrics…a solid song.
